The Alliance for Industrial Efficiency applauds the Environmental Protection Agency for including in its Cross-State Air Pollution Rule new incentives for energy efficiency. Energy efficiency, especially at large factories, is a smart investment that can reduce harmful air pollutants while enhancing America’s manufacturing competitiveness and creating jobs. Industrial energy efficiency, especially the use of Combined Heat and Power (CHP) and Waste Heat Recovery (WHR) could provide 20 percent of America’s electricity and create one million new jobs, according to the Department of Energy.
As states develop plans to implement it, the Cross-State Air Pollution rule allows them to offer energy efficiency credits that would help factories lower operating costs and reduce air pollution by eliminating unnecessary electricity demand. The Alliance also applauds EPA for committing to provide state governments with further guidance to develop these new energy efficiency incentives. The Alliance looks forward to working with EPA, state governments, manufacturers, labor unions and others to implement these common sense industrial efficiency policies.
