DGA founder David Gardiner co-authored a report for the Open Compute Project (OCP) that outlines ways for policymakers to support data center heat reuse.
As new data centers rapidly expand their footprint, the industry needs strategies to limit its substantial energy consumption. Data center heat reuse is increasingly common in Europe, but less so elsewhere in the world. The OCP report explores the benefits of, and obstacles to, data center heat reuse and highlights more than 20 specific policies across Europe, as well as Asia and North America, that encourage, or even require, heat reuse. In addition to David Gardiner (lead), the report authors include Otto Van Geet from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (lead), Jaime Comella from AQ Compute, and Bharath Ramakrishnan from Microsoft.
